Practical guide

How to compress an image to 100 KB in your browser

Reduce a JPG, PNG, or WebP toward a 100 KB, 200 KB, or 500 KB upload limit locally, then check dimensions and image quality.

Pick a sensible output size

Many profile forms and attachments set a maximum file size. Open the Image Compressor and choose the 100 KB, 200 KB, or 500 KB target that matches the form. The target is a best effort: a detailed image may need smaller dimensions to fit.

Compare formats

WebP is useful on the modern web. JPEG works widely for photos but does not preserve transparency. Lower quality usually produces smaller files, but inspect fine edges and text.

A careful workflow

Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP file up to 15 MB and 20 megapixels. Select an output format, maximum width, and target size. Let the browser search for a suitable quality, then inspect the preview and result size before downloading. If the target is missed, choose a smaller target only if the form requires it, or reduce the maximum width.

Keep dimensions and appearance in mind

A 100 KB photo can look acceptable at a small display size but show artifacts when enlarged. A form may also impose a minimum pixel dimension or accept only JPEG/PNG. Check its instructions before choosing WebP or shrinking a portrait.

Results vary

The browser decodes and re-encodes the image locally. Compression varies by browser and source; already-optimized images may become larger. Target mode reports whether it met the requested size but cannot promise that every image will fit. The tool does not upload your file.
